Joe Scott    >  Visiting Artist

Joe Scott's avid study of mythology, symbolism and religious art has resulted in a truly insightful and vibrant body of work.   Buddha, Christ, Demons, Dragons and Orange-Striped Cats appear.    Machinations occur.   Inventive go-carts careen into allegorical scenes.  Women and the Buddha mourn as fires burn and corpses lie.   At times directly political, protest is intentional.  When you look hard at Joe Scott's work, it reads like some present day elegy.  This artist's work is visionary and his output is prodigious - shown here is but a small sampling of the work.

Joe Scott was born in Pittsburgh PA, one of twelve children in a lively and creative Irish American family.  He studied dance as a youth and art at the Pittsburgh Art Institute.  As a young man, Joe danced with the Pittsburgh Ballet, painted signs and floats for Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus and during a stint in the military, taught art on the Island of Guam for the Air Force.  Joe worked for 30 years as a Graphic Designer,  painting nightly in his basement studio while raising a family with his wife, Daisy.

Joe Scott's paintings are in numerous collections throughout the United States, Japan, Finland and Sweden.

He lives and paints in Taylor, Michigan.
